Carson-Newman again cited as a “College of Distinction”

Nursing major Kristen Ball Tabor accepts her degree during Carson-Newman’s Spring Commencement. The University was recently named both a “College of Distinction” and “Christian College of Distinction” for 2016-2017.

(July 28, 2016) – Carson-Newman University has been named again a “College of Distinction” and a “Christian College of Distinction” for 2016-2017.

We’re so happy to award Carson-Newman for developing skills relevant to graduates’ lives,” said Tyson Schritter, executive editor for Colleges of Distinction, which oversees the designations.

“High student engagement in college is one of the keys to a successful undergraduate education,” said Schritter. “With an increasing emphasis on hands-on learning techniques, Colleges of Distinction applauds the University for practicing methodologies that prepare students for their futures.”

Carson-Newman is one of a select group of colleges deemed to demonstrate results across the organization’s Four Distinctions—Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes.

“To be recognized for both our distinction in higher education and championed as a Christian university is always an honor,” said Dr. Paul Percy, Carson-Newman’s provost. “The distinction belongs to our faculty and staff who make our University such a special place for students to find their calling in life.”

High school college counselors and educators nominate colleges and universities for recognition by Colleges of Distinction, which then evaluates each school based on qualitative and quantitative research. The colleges and universities are not ranked and instead are members of a consortium of other equally impressive schools.
