BWSF president to speak during MLK Chapel Service

Tina Sloan GreenOn Tuesday, January 22, Carson-Newman will host Tina Sloan Green for its annual MLK Chapel Service. The event is part of C-N’s Social Justice Week.

Tina Sloan Green is co-founder and president of the Black Women in Sport Foundation. She is professor emeritus in the College of Education at Temple University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As the first African-American head coach in the history of women’s intercollegiate lacrosse, Sloan Green was head coach of the Temple University Women’s Lacrosse Team from 1973-1992. She led Temple to three National Championships and 11 consecutive NCAA Final Four appearances.

In 2008, she received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) and the National Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association. Sloan Green has also co-authored two books, “Black Women in Sport” and “Modern Women’s Lacrosse.”

The 9:30 a.m. service, entitled “God Don’t Like Ugly,” will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church.
