PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Carson-Newman offers a 2 year Associates of Arts in Photography and a 4-year BA Degree in either Art or Photography. This separate major in Photography is a distinctive aspect of our Art Department. All Photography majors take a common core of fundamental Art & Photography courses, and then choose from several more specialized courses at the upper levels. Our Photography majors learn traditional film/darkroom techniques as well as current digital techniques. As a student moves through our Photography program, he or she is allowed increasing freedom at the upper levels to explore personalized experiments and goals of subject matter, aesthetics, content, and materials of image-making.

Graduates of our program enjoy professional artistic success in a variety of ways, including working as freelance commercial photographers, staff photographers for large firms, studio and gallery managers, and other rewarding careers. Many of our graduates have also gone on to earn more advanced degrees beyond the BA level. Our specialty is the personalized attention given to each student by our professional, friendly, and committed Art faculty.
