Carson-Newman University’s A Cappella Choir embarks on its annual Spring Tour. A tradition that spans more than six decades, this year’s Spring Tour showcases the University’s premier singing ensemble in venues throughout Middle and East Tennessee.

(March 6, 2014)– On March 12, Carson-Newman University’s A Cappella Choir begins its annual Spring Tour, which extends through middle and eastern Tennessee this year.

Under the direction of Dr. Eric Thorson, A Cappella is Carson-Newman’s premier singing ensemble comprised of 45 music majors and non-majors from across the U.S.

“We represent the University, but we also want to put legs onto our faith,” said Thorson. “We try to share the Gospel in a way that is meaningful for use. We use our talents to communicate important truths about our faith, and we try to make each performance a worship service.”

The tour repertoire includes many choral classics as well as modern sacred texts, Gospel and spiritual songs. All performances are free and open to the public.

The tour begins Wednesday in Chattanooga, moving west on Thursday to Sparta and Murfreesboro, on to Nashville Sunday morning, and finishing in Smithville Sunday evening.

Carson-Newman A Cappella has upheld the spring tour tradition since 1946. Since becoming conductor of the choir in 1983, Thorson has led his ensembles to perform with the Atlanta, Fort Wayne, New Orleans, Knoxville Symphony and Chamber Orchestras; hosted noted British musicians John Rutter and Noel Tredinnick; and toured Europe, Brazil and the Holy Land.
