Carson-Newman named a “Tennessee VETS Campus”

Carson-Newman students study in the Dr. J. Randall O’Brien Veterans Center on campus, a space designated for all veteran students, faculty and staff. The center, the establishment of a Student Veterans of America chapter on campus, along with other initiatives earned Carson-Newman the designation of being a “Tennessee VETS Campus.”

Carson-Newman University is a Tennessee VETS Campus according to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. The news grants Carson-Newman the designation of having a Tennessee Veterans Education Transition Support Campus.

By being a Tennessee VETS Campus, Carson-Newman prioritizes outreach to veterans and delivers services necessary to create a supportive environment where student veterans can prosper while pursuing their education.

“When veterans are looking for a place to go to school after leaving the service and they see that logo on our website, they can feel confident that our university is going to do everything we can to help them be successful in school,” said Pat Bivens, C-N’s director of Military and Veterans Services.

Bivens, a United State Air Force veteran, said she was particularly pleased with the news. “As a veteran employee of Carson-Newman, I am proud of how the University has committed to providing a strong support system for veterans who choose to pursue their degree here, whether it is in person or online.”
