University announces new Intercollegiate Recreational Sports Department

Brady Duncan, a member of Carson-Newman’s Eagle Anglers, takes to the waters of Cherokee Lake. The bass fishing team falls under C-N’s new Intercollegiate Recreational Sports Department.

Carson-Newman University announces this fall the formation of an Intercollegiate Recreational Sports Department. The move serves as an umbrella for its nationally competitive bass fishing program, Eagle Anglers.

The Intercollegiate Recreational Sports Department is headed by Hunter Sales, coach of the Eagle Anglers team.  The creation of this department allows for future expansion into other areas of competition.

Founded in 2017 a small club sport, Eagle Anglers is now a university-funded program successfully competing on the state and national level. This year the program earned first place at the Bassmaster College Classic and third place at the ACA Collegiate Series.
