Carson-Newman’s Hurricane Harvey relief culminates Thursday, Sept 7

(Sept. 5, 2017) – Carson-Newman University is collecting financial and material gifts that will be given directly to Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief for the agency’s massive effort to help those devastated by Hurricane Harvey. The “Give’em Whatcha Got: Days of Giving” initiative focuses on Thursday, Sept. 7, with several on-campus events and opportunities for students to contribute. Members of the community who wish to participate may do so by leaving materials at a campus donation center or contributing online 24/7 at: cn.edu/daysofgiving

One of the many great things about Carson-Newman University is its institutional heart for those in need,” said Senior Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Ross Brummett. “Our staff, students and faculty embody Christ’s call to do unto others, and you really see it when life brings storms. And those who give can know that 100 percent of what they give will be used for this effort.”

Cash and checks may be given at the Campus Ministries House (2214 Branner Avenue) and dry goods may be left at the control desk of the Maddox Student Activities Center (located at the lower back of 2130 Branner Avenue, Jefferson City). Personal items and work materials that are needed but unavailable in the damaged region may be taken to the control desk 6:30 a.m. – 11 p.m. (See detailed list below.)

When full, C-N staffers will deliver the trailer to a Morristown warehouse from which Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers will transport them to areas to which they are assigned.

The collection initiative kicked off last week with “Talons Up: A Night of Giving,” at the August 31 football game, which generated more than $1,150 in cash donations.

The campus-wide effort is being coordinated by the Division of Student Affairs. For more information, or to participate, please call 865-471-3537.
