Carson-Newman a signature sponsor for 15th annual Todd Collins and Dr. Chris Jones Golf Classic, April 27

(April 4, 2016)—Carson-Newman University is teaming up with the Boys & Girls Club of Dumplin Valley to raise money for local children, serving as signature sponsor for the 2016 Annual Todd Collins & Dr. Chris Jones Golf Classic. The event is April 27 at Patriot Hills Golf Course.

Carson-Newman University President J. Randall O’Brien says there is nothing better than the opportunity to play golf for children in need.

“I would encourage everyone to join us for this worthy cause,” O’Brien says. “These children need our help. Let’s be there for them.

The first flight begins at 8:15 a.m., with the second flight starting at 1 p.m.

Proceeds from the classic will benefit children at the Jefferson City, White Pine and Strawberry Plains branches that make up the Boys & Girls Club of Dumplin Valley.

“To know that a higher education institution stepped up to help and serve younger children is such a blessing,” Executive Director of Boys & Girls Club of Dumplin Valley Jessica Page says. “It is a testament of Carson-Newman’s genuine care and respect for taking care of youth in hopes that they will pursue a higher education.”

The event’s namesakes will participate in this year’s classic. Collins is a former Carson-Newman linebacker who went on to a professional career with the New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams; Jones is a Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame member and former Carson-Newman basketball standout who was drafted by the Cincinnati Royals, returning as head coach at Carson-Newman in 1981.

The Boys and Girls Club of Dumplin Valley seeks to enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens; preparing them for the future while allowing them to enjoy their childhood.
