University’s Weyer sees music published

(Dec. 10, 2015) – Carson-Newman’s Matt Weyer recently completed a musical arrangement of the standard hymn, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” The piece has been published by Tapspace Publications.

I was drawn to the hymn, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” as I have always taken comfort in the text and musical content of the hymn,” said Weyer. “I began developing this arrangement as a marimba solo, beginning with the arpeggiated texture that I used in the second verse of the duet.

“I’m delighted to add this arrangement to the library of Tapspace Publications, and am honored that it was premiered on campus at C-N.”

Weyer serves as adjunct instructor of percussion at Carson-Newman. He is also is the founder of Contemporary Percussion Concepts, a consulting and educational activity specializing in percussion lessons, clinics, arranging, group instruction and program consulting.

The Knoxville resident holds the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Music degree in Music Performance from the University of Georgia, where he also completed course work toward the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Music Performance.
