Sigma Tau Delta (Carson-Newman’s English honor society) will host a book signing and reception after the reading. A Knoxville native, Madden is a Robert Penn Warren Professor of Creative Writing Emeritus at LSU. He held the chair of excellence at Austin Peay State University and has been a writer-in-residence for LSU, UNC Chapel Hill, Clark University, Lynchburg College and the University of Delaware where he was a distinguished visiting scholar. “The Last Bizarre Tale,” published in 2014, is Madden’s most recent work. He has produced numerous novels, short story collections, historical works, poems and more since publishing his first novel, “The Beautiful Greed,” in 1961. The reading, which is free and open to the public, will be in the Appalachian Cultural Center, located along Russell Avenue on Carson-Newman’s Campus. Seating is limited.
