Alpha Chi chapter earns University’s student philanthropy award

Alpha Chi students Grace Boone, Payton Blankenship and Chapter President Alex Carver help unload new books the group donated to Samaritan House.

(April 24, 2015) – Carson-Newman University’s Tennessee Delta chapter of Alpha Chi was recently honored with the University’s Student Philanthropy Organization of the Year Award.

Alpha Chi is a national coeducational academic honor society. The society actively promotes academic excellence, undergraduate and graduate research, campus academic dialogue, and civic engagement.

The chapter was honored for their donation of over 150 new children’s books to Samaritan House ministries. The donation totaled over $1,000 worth of books to the homeless family ministry’s library.
The award was part of Carson-Newman’s Student Ambassador Association’s Student Philanthropy Project. Other campus organizations that took part were Carson-Newman Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Student Ambassador Association, Mortar Board, Gamma Sigma Sigma.

The total effort by participating groups raised some $4,000 for non-profit organizations.

Since 1987 Samaritan House has been a ministry operated by students & staff of Carson-Newman University’s Campus Ministries in cooperation with a network of friends, churches & community agencies. Samaritan House operates in close partnership with Appalachian Outreach home repair ministry.
