University to host poetry reading by celebrated Irish poets Dallat and Fyfe

(April 1, 2015) — Carson-Newman’s English Department will welcome celebrated Irish poets C. L. Dallat and Anne-Marie Fyfe to read from their poetry collections Friday, April 10 at 2 p.m. in the Appalachian Cultural Center.

“The English Department is delighted to bring to campus Cahal and Anne-Marie,” English Department Chair Shawn O’Hare said.  “These are the kind of events that help distinguish Carson-Newman.”

The event is a stop on Dallat and Fyfe’s tour across the U.S.  The married couple is based in London.

Dallat has written poetry collections including “A Year of Not Dancing” and “Morning Star.”  His poem “Love on a Rock” won the 2006 Strokesown International Poetry Competition, Ireland’s leading poetry contest.  Dallat has many more accolades from organizations including Cardiff International, Amnesty International, Kent & Sussex Poetry Society, Cheltenham Poetry Festival and more.  He regularly writes as a critic for a number of publications including “The Guardian.”

Fyfe has authored five collections of poetry including “Understudies: New and Selected Works” and her most recent collection, “House of Small Absences,” which will be released April 15.  She has organized Coffee-House Poetry for 16 years and is a former chair of the Poetry Society.  Fyfe has appeared on BBC and CNN, was featured in “The Essay” on Emily Dickinson for BBC Radio and frequently hosts and chairs literary events and panel discussions.

The event is free and open to the public. Carson-Newman’s Appalachian Cultural Center is located on Russell Avenue in Jefferson City.
