EVENT CANCELLED: Carson-Newman to host Smoky Mountain Counseling Association Conference, Feb. 21

THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER AND WILL NOT BE SCHEDULED.

(Feb. 13, 2014) — Area counseling professionals are invited to the ninth annual Smoky Mountain Counseling Association (SMCA) Conference Saturday, Feb. 21, at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tenn. The day begins with an 8 a.m. registration and continental breakfast.

All counseling professionals are invited to the professional development event held in Carson-Newman’s Stokely Memorial Building/Cafeteria from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“I don’t know of any conference in East Tennessee as comprehensive for all areas of counseling,” said Dr. Michael Bundy, Carson-Newman’s assistant professor of school counseling and past president of the Tennessee Counseling Association (TCA).

This year’s keynote speaker is Knoxville native and longtime News Sentinel humor columnist Sam Venable. He is a member of the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame (Class of 2009) and Tennessee Journalism Hall of Fame (Class of 2014). Winner of nearly 40 national and regional writing awards, Venable is widely published outside the newspaper industry, compiling more than 150 periodical credits to his record.
The conference, which offers continuing education units (CEU), includes a wide range of counseling sessions from ethics to mindfulness counseling, college/career counseling, supervision, crisis counseling, and many more.

Participants have the opportunity to earn up to five continuing education unit credits.

It is a great time to connect with other professionals as a networking opportunity as well as learn from experts in the field in breakout sessions,” said Melissa Scoble, president of the Smoky Mountain Counseling Association and Carson-Newman alumna.

SMCA is a chapter of the TCA. They seek to unite regional counseling professionals and provide opportunities for professional growth and continued education.

The conference costs $70 at the door for non-TCA/SMCA members. There are early-bird registration discounts, as well as discounts for TCA or SMCA members, students, retired professionals and presenters. Breakfast, lunch, snacks and CEU certificates are included.

For more information contact Dr. Michael Bundy at 865-471-2085.
