Appalachian Center project to be focus of Women of Vision’s “Back to the Creek Week”

(July 3, 2014)– Carson-Newman’s Women of Vision will give the University’s Appalachian Center a facelift during its annual “Back to the Creek Week” from July 10 to 12.

Women supporters and friends are invited to partner with Women of Vision, which is dedicated to the edification of the Carson-Newman campus. The weekend begins with a 7 p.m. dinner at the JoAnn and Howard Chitwood Alumni Center at Hale Place and continues Friday and Saturday with work renovating the Appalachian Center.

The Center, which houses a small gallery for artistic, cultural, and historical exhibits and frequently hosts readings and presentations by regional writers and artists, will undergo renovation of its first floor and porch area. Work will also focus on the Center’s kitchen, bathroom and gallery.

“No special skills are needed — just a desire to come to campus, join in the fun and fellowship, and contribute to the group project,” said Kay O’Brien, the University’s first lady and president of Women of Vision. “I hope any woman interested will come alongside Women of Vision for this unique, memory-building experience.”

For those wishing to participate in the entire weekend, the cost is $35 and covers food and housing. Though hosted by Women of Vision, O’Brien says they welcome anyone, women and men, for either a single afternoon or the entire weekend.

Women of Vision is a group that seeks to glorify God and further His kingdom by nurturing truth, enhancing beauty and enriching goodness through the Carson-Newman experience. The project is coordinated by 1968 alumna Susan Fendley.
