Carson-Newman to host Service Learning Summit, Feb. 1

(Jan. 17, 2014) – Carson-Newman University’s Bonner Center for Service Learning & Civic Engagement is hosting The Appalachian Summit on Service Learning Pedagogy & Practice, Saturday, Feb. 1.

The focus of the Summit is to create tangible outcomes to assist faculty in integrating service learning into the classroom and initiating greater civic dialogue throughout the campus community and Appalachian region.

Workshops will be presented by teams from Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial University, Chattahoochee Technical College, Ferrum College, as well as teams from two Pennsylvania State University campuses and from Community-Campus Partnerships for Health.

The event is free to Carson-Newman faculty, staff, students and community partners, $30 for regional individuals, and $120 for regional teams of five or more.

Carson-Newman University is a private, Christian liberal arts institution. Founded in 1851, Carson-Newman is located in Jefferson City, Tenn., among the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The University has 2,045 students and offers 50 undergraduate majors, as well as bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees.
