School Counseling Graduate Program to Host SMCA Conference

On Saturday, Feb. 23, Carson-Newman’s School Counseling Graduate Program will host the 7th Annual Smoky Mountain Counseling Association One-day Conference. The keynote speaker for the SMCA Conference this year will be Dr. Christopher Bauer.

Bauer is a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience as a speaker, trainer, author, and consultant on professional ethics and values-driven business strategies. Between coaching, speaking and consulting, he has worked with both front-line workers and senior executives. His clients have included small and medium sized businesses as well as Fortune 500 corporations.

“This is a great opportunity for individuals to receive 4 hours of ethics training that is required each year for practitioners,” said Dr. Michael Bundy, assistant professor with C-N’s School Counseling Program. “This training will be humorous, engaging, and very appealing to all who attend.”

The event will feature three breakout sessions, enabling guests to choose between a variety of sessions, taught by presenters from schools around the region. Bundy said he hopes that counselors who attend this conference will be able to take away an increased knowledge of counseling skills, networking through meeting new colleagues, and most importantly, a sense of renewal, enthusiasm and passion for their practice.

The conference will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the campus of Carson-Newman University. Registration will take place in the Stokely Memorial Building/Cafeteria from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 23.
