C-N’s Operation Inasmuch Service Day is Saturday

Carson-Newman’s seventh annual Operation Inasmuch (OI) workday begins at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Since becoming the first college or university to host an Operation Inasmuch event in 2006, C-N’s 2965 volunteers have given 8895 hours of service to East Tennessee communities. Saturday’s event is expected to push that total over the 10,000-hour mark.

“While Operation Inasmuch helps our community partners, it also serves ours students by helping them encounter community members and learning more about where they live and go to school,” said Brandi Jordan, who is coordinating the event through C-N’s Bonner Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement. “Our community partners also benefit. They know that each yeah they can call on Carson-Newman to provide a work team to help them with a labor intensive project. Plus they get an opportunity to educate students about the work they do, which can help them recruit new volunteers.”

The morning missions project provides hands-on assistance to people and agencies in Jefferson City and the surrounding area. Volunteers will fan out into the community and help paint, landscape and provide a host of other services to their neighbors.

According to data collected by the Bonner Center, C-N students provided more than 200,000 hours of community service and missions work last year. The school offers more than 60 courses that include a service learning component.

The effort kicks off at 9 a.m. in the three-gym area of the Maddox Student Activities Center.

NOTE: There is a new online registration form this year. Each participant/group must register online. Please go to OPERATIONINASMUCH to register for the 7th Annual Operation Inasmuch!
