Byron Bell Selected to Preach in Tuesday’s Chapel

Carson-Newman senior Byron Bell will deliver Tuesday morning’s chapel sermon. The public is invited to the 9:30 a.m. service in the sanctuary of Jefferson City’s First Baptist Church.

The Worship Planning Team selected Bell from outstanding students in Dr. Harold Bryson’s preaching class last semester. The double major in religion (emphasis in leadership and Christian ethics) and business administration has a 3.1 GPA and is an active participant in the C-N community.

“Byron’s one of those guys who will make a difference in this world,” said Ken Sparks, C-N’s head football coach for whom Bell played four seasons. “He’s out there winning people for the Lord. He understands what’s important and pours his heart into it.”

One of just 22 student-athletes nationally to be included on Allstate’s AFCA Good Works Team, Bell’s work has transcended the gridiron. The president of the C-N’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes for two years, he also developed and implemented C-N Compassion to help area residents who need physical labor to accomplish tasks around home.

A tutor who helps fellow C-N students, Bell has assisted campus beautification projects and also participated in a project to help prepare high school students for the school year. His service has included presenting Thanksgiving meals to families in need, volunteering with Luke 14 Banquet, a local carnival for special needs children, and speaking in schools during bullying prevention programs.
