A Cappella Choir, KSO to celebrate the sounds of Rodgers & Hammerstein

(Feb. 3, 2016) – A February 13 performance by Carson-Newman University’s A Cappella Choir and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra is generating anticipation on campus.

The 8 p.m. performance, “Knoxville Symphony Presents KSO Pops: A Celebration of Rodgers & Hammerstein,” offers an evening celebrating the work by the musical giants. Carson-Newman’s A Cappella Choir will team with the KSO to perform such show-stopping pieces as “Climb Every Mountain,” “Oklahoma,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” and “All The Things You Are.”

The concert, which will be held at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium, will also feature three surprise Broadway singers.

A Cappella’s director Dr. Eric Thorson, now in his 33rd year of directing the choir, says the University’s ensemble is looking forward to the event. “The chance to work with three soloists currently performing on the Broadway stage and our own Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in a production of some of the greatest show music ever written for the stage, is a singular honor and opportunity.”

Thorson says the opportunity is a great and valuable experience for the Carson-Newman choir.

“Many of my students know the current repertoire on the Broadway stage,” said Thorson, “but this is a chance to learn and perform repertoire that built the “Great White Way.”
