Samaritan House Family Ministries named Non-Profit of the Year

Samaritan House Family Ministries was selected as the Non-Profit of the Year for Jefferson County. The ministry is a component of Carson-Newman University’s Appalachian Ministries of the Smokies (AMOS). The announcement came during the 41st annual banquet of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. Samaritan House was recognized for its work to provide shelter for homeless families. AMOS received the award in 2020 for its outreach during the pandemic.

“It has been an honor to serve with Appalachian Ministries and the Samaritan House for almost three decades,” said Executive Director Jean-Ann Washam. God has blessed the efforts of volunteers and staff. I pray that He will continue to let Samaritan House be a place of refuge, love and compassion for those struggling.”

In 2022 Samaritan House Family Ministries served 28 families for a total of 2,562 days of care. Those who received assistance represented five counties in East Tennessee. It also provided 4,265 hot meals to those in need. Since it was established in 1987, over 2,600 families have found a same home and opportunity to work toward necessary goals, while receiving Christian support and encouragement.

“It is humbling to receive such a recognition from our community,” said Dr. Jonathan Akin, vice president for Church Relations and Campus Ministries. “I am pleased for our employees and amazing volunteers. It is their work and devotion of showing the love of Christ to others that makes Samaritan House and AMOS such a special place of impact.”
