Carson-Newman to host student, faculty galleries for Homecoming

Warren Art Building

(September 14, 2021) JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Students and faculty within the Carson-Newman University Art Department will host a series of open exhibitions for Homecoming on Oct. 30.

Carson-Newman senior Shannon Stooksbury will have her work on display in conjunction with the Student Gallery exhibit, which will run Oct. 18 through Homecoming in the Warren Art Building.

An additional senior exhibit will be showcased in Stephens-Burnett Memorial Library on campus, featuring work by C-N senior Kathleen Christon.

The department will also kickoff the 15th annual Biennial Art Faculty Exhibition at 9:30 a.m. during Homecoming at the Warren Art Building. The exhibition will feature new and recent artwork in a variety of media by current C-N Art Department faculty members Lisa Flanary, Heather Hartman Folks, Gretchen Long, Julie Rabun and David Underwood. The exhibit will run through Dec. 1.

“Typically, the Art Faculty Exhibition is a variety of photography, painting, mixed media, drawing and more,” said C-N Art Department Chair Julie Rabun. “We have a very talented and creative faculty, so I’m quite confident that the faculty show will be excellent. As far as finally resuming normal gallery exhibitions, it is a blessing to be able to exhibit work in a public setting again. Artists’ work can be very personal and cathartic, and allowing others to experience artwork that responds to our social and emotional well-being is an important step in resuming some sense of community and normalcy.”

Found in 1851, Carson-Newman is a Christian liberal arts-based university located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, among the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The University offers 50 undergraduate majors, as well as associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees.
