Carson-Newman Opera Theatre to present one-act operas

(April 9, 2018) – Carson-Newman University’s Opera Theatre will present two one-act operas Thursday, April 12 and Saturday, April 14 at 5 p.m. Performances will be held in Gentry Auditorium on campus.

“La Divina” by Thomas Pasatieri, is the tale of an operatic diva at the end of her glamorous career. Featured C-N students include: Kaylee Kesterson, Tyra Shelly, Bradley Thompson and Ashton Davidson.

“A Game of Chance” by Seymour Barab, presents four unique characters portrayed by C-N students Courtney French, Katelyn Grigsby, Elizabeth Frahme. Matthew Huckaba (April 12) and Frederick Wagoner (April 14).

Both are American operas in English and great for anyone new to opera, according to director Dr. Joshua Zink.

What’s really wonderful here is interacting and relating with the students in 2018’s society – hashtags and all,” said Zink. “Seeing them tackle contemporary issues has been astonishing. They have taken chances and stretched themselves vocally, dramatically, and intellectually. It’s been a gift to observe.”

Both performances are free and open to the public.
