category: Campus News Drs. Fogg and Zink to perform Schubert’s “Winterreise,” Feb. 13 category: Campus News | February 8, 2018 (Feb. 8, 2018) – Carson-Newman University’s Music Department presents a Feb. 13 performance by two of its faculty members. Drs. Ryan Fogg and Joshua Zink will present Schubert’s “Winterreise,” one of the largest works of art in all music of Western culture. The work is composed of 24 dramatic songs/poems. The vocal and piano performance will feature Zink as baritone and Fogg on piano. Zink serves as assistant professor of Music while Fogg serves as associate professor of Music. “This piece addresses pain, suffering, and the lack of control that truly exists,” said Zink. “Often times we don’t give ourselves permission to address pain nor express it, for social constructs. These songs/poems shatter that barrier and illustrate what we all deal with on some existential level.” The 7:30 p.m. performance will be held in Thomas Recital Hall located in Tarr Music Center on campus. It is free and open to the public.
