Campus community prays for C-N Safety Department members

Pictured are C-N Security Guard Lucas Trent (left) and JCPD Sergeant Scott Winstead (right)

(Oct. 7, 2017)−The Carson-Newman community extends prayers for those involved in a vehicle collision late Friday evening. Two members of the campus family, C-N security guard Lucas Trent and Jefferson City Police Department Sergeant Scott Winstead, were both seriously injured and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

The collision happened when Trent’s and Winstead’s vehicle was hit by a speeding SUV. The two SUV occupants were also injured, one of them fatally.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is overseeing the case since a police officer and municipal vehicle were involved. THP will release information when ready following its investigation.

Sgt. Winstead works on campus as part of an innovative contractual partnership between the University and the JCPD.
