University presents Keenan with 2017 Teaching Excellence Award

(Sept. 7, 2017) – Carson-Newman University recognized Dr. Caroline Keenan during Fall Convocation with the University’s 2017 Teaching Excellence and Leadership Award.

Dr. Keenan embodies Carson-Newman’s commitment to excellent instruction,” praised Dr. Paul Percy, executive vice president and provost. “She’s been praised for the overwhelming care she grants her students, for her accessibility, as seen through one-on-one conversations about lessons, and for making challenging material easier.”

An assistant professor of chemistry who joined C-N in 2014, Keenan earned a BSc from Lincoln University, the MS from the University of Michigan, and the PhD from the University of Florida. She has been praised by colleagues for developing online courses, setting high standards, investing herself in student research projects and connecting with colleagues across the University.

Presented to non-tenured faculty members since 1990, the honor is presented to creative and effective professors who foster learning. Considered an indicator of future promise, the honor recognizes exceptional ability and positive student feedback. Beyond receiving a plaque and a monetary award, the recipient’s name is affixed to a permanent Fite Administration Building display.
