category: Campus News Texas Flood Relief Drive Thursday, Aug. 31 category: Campus News | August 30, 2017 C-N Opens Avenues of Support to Hurricane Victims As Hurricane Harvey continues its swath of damage across the Gulf Coast, the Carson-Newman University community is collecting funds to support those rendered homeless in the last week. Collections will be forwarded for the purpose of direct aid through Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief. Efforts kickoff with tonight’s “Talons Up; Night of Giving,” with cash donations being accepted at the Eagles season opener football game vs. the Pikeville College Bears. Those who wish to donate may do so at the ticket gate or throughout the course of the game. “We wanted to start something immediately to generate assistance to storm victims, many of whom have lost everything they had,” said Gloria Walker, co-director of the Student Success Center. “We know that the number of people who are hurting only grows with each passing hour, so we hope to develop a second opportunity in the coming days.” The campus-wide effort is being coordinated by the Student Success Center and is co-sponsored by the Student Athletic Advisory Committee and Baptist Collegiate Ministries, along with the endorsement of the South Atlantic Conference.
