University presents 2017 Winter Worship Series, Feb. 7-9

(Jan. 18, 2017) – Carson-Newman University will present its Winter Worship Series Feb. 7–9. The event is free and open to the public.

The theme for this year’s series is “Divine Timing.” The featured guests include event speaker Dr. Joel Gregory and worship director Pepper Choplin. Services will be held at Jefferson City’s First Baptist Church.
Gregory holds the George W. Truett Endowed Chair in Preaching and Evangelism at the George W. Truett Theological Seminary of Baylor University. He has spoken in churches and conferences across the county as well as internationally. This summer he will deliver the concluding message at the Baptist World Congress in Durban, South Africa.

A member of the Baptist World Alliance Commission on Worship and Spirituality, he also served two terms as president of the 5,400-church Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is the founder of Proclaimers Place seminars, which has have been conducted in 17 states, Oxford, Paris, Rome and Athens.

Choplin is a full time composer, conductor and humorist. With a diverse musical background, Choplin incorporates varied styles such as folk, Gospel, classical, and jazz. His published work includes over 250 anthems for church and school choir with 16 church cantatas and a book of piano arrangements. Since 1991, his choral music has sold several million copies.

Thursday, Feb. 9, 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
