University announces “Sevier Strong Scholarships” fundraising effort

(Dec. 12, 2016) – Carson-Newman University announced today a fundraising effort to establish an endowed scholarship for students of Sevier County. The University is calling the donor drive “Sevier Strong Scholarships.”

“Our hearts have been broken over the tragedy that has transpired recently in The Great Smoky Mountains and the Gatlinburg area,” said Carson-Newman President J. Randall O’Brien. “We want to help kids from the families of Sevier County who have suffered losses.”

University officials say that if the fundraising goal of $40,000 is met quickly, Sevier County students graduating in May would have access to the scholarship as early as fall 2017.
