Tennessee State Representative Brooks to address December graduates

Tennessee State Representative Harry Brooks

(Dec. 1, 2016) – Carson-Newman University will hold its Winter Commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 9. The 3 p.m. ceremony will be held in the University’s Holt Fieldhouse.

Tennessee State Representative Harry Brooks will deliver the commencement address. A representative for the 19th District since 2002, Brooks has a proven interest in education. The Maryville native has experience serving as a public school teacher in Grainger County and as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Carson-Newman University. As a member of the state legislature, he has continued to be involved in education by serving in several education committees as both member and chair. He also serves on the University’s Board of Trustees.

Founded in 1851, Carson-Newman is located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, among the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The University has over 2,600 students and offers 50 undergraduate majors, as well as associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees.
