Country and Bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs to headline Carson-Newman benefit concert, Nov. 10

Country music and Bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs banters with an audience at a Carson-Newman sponsored concert in 2012. Skaggs will once again take the stage for a University benefit concert on Nov. 10.

(Oct. 7, 2016) – Country music and Bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder will be in concert Thursday, Nov. 10 at Knoxville’s new Mill & Mine. The “Appalachian Music & Food Celebration” benefits Carson-Newman University’s Ricky Skaggs Student Scholarship and the University’s Women of Vision organization.

The evening’s lineup includes 12-year old phenom “Fiddlin’ Carson Peters.” Peters, who calls Piney Flats, Tennessee, home, has been featured on the Grand Ole Opry stage as well as NBC’s “Tonight Show” and “Little Big Shots” with Steve Harvey.

Featured chefs for the event include:

  • Knoxville’s Nancy Kendrick better known as the “Chicken Lady” from Creative Catering‰ÛÜ
  • Brown Bag, Food with a Purpose
  • Buddy’s Hometown Catering
  • LuLu’s Tea Room
  • Cruze Farm Dairy

In its fifth year, Women of Vision is a philanthropic organization that seeks to enhance areas of the University benefiting students and the college experience. Members have significantly impacted campus through projects and initiatives in a relatively short time.

The Mill & Mine is located at 227 W. Depot Ave. in Knoxville.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m.

Food and beverages are included in the ticket price.
