Mortar Board chapter earns national honors at Indianapolis conference

(Sept. 6, 2016) – Carson-Newman University’s Mortar Board chapter, Panathenees, recently earned its ninth consecutive Golden Torch Award at the 2016 Mortar Board National Conference last week in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The honor recognizes the most exceptional chapters of the national honor society that accomplish significant results in chapter management and contributing meaningful service to their institutions. Only 15 percent of chapters in the nation earned the designation.

We are so proud of our students for winning this award and for their commitment to scholarship, leadership, and service,” said Dr. Kara Stooksbury, who is completing her time advising the group with colleague Dr. Christine Dalton. “It has been a blessing to get to work with Mortar Board students. Their commitment to both academics and to service is inspiring and exemplifies what is best about Carson-Newman.”

For students to be selected as a member of Mortar Board, they must excel in scholarship, leadership and service.

Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Since its founding in 1918, the Society has grown from four to over 230 chartered collegiate chapters with more than a quarter-million members across the nation.
