category: Campus News Carson-Newman to host The Emancipators in concert, April 18 category: Campus News | April 11, 2016 (April 11, 2016) – Carson-Newman University will host The Emancipators in concert on Monday, April 18, 7 p.m. The event, which will be held in the Appalachian Cultural Center on campus, is in celebration of Earth Day and the 25th Anniversary of Narrow Ridge Earth Literacy Center. The Emancipators is an acoustic ensemble with ties to Narrow Ridge Earth Literacy Center. The ensemble specializes in original and cover tunes that promote peace, social and eco-justice. The group’s music ranges from the political to the personal, traditional to contemporary, with a common concern for building community through music. The group’s name gives a nod to the nation’s first abolitionist newspaper. Published in Jonesborough, Tennessee in 1820, The Emancipator published exclusively anti-slavery rants, letters, and news. The concert is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.
