Buckner named dean of Adult and Graduate Studies

Dr. Jeremy Buckner

(June 30, 2015) – Carson-Newman University has announced that Dr. Jeremy Buckner will serve as dean of Adult and Graduate Studies.

Buckner joined Carson-Newman’s faculty in 2008. He has served as chair of the University’s Music Department since 2011.

Carson-Newman Provost Paul Percy says he’s impressed with the experience Buckner brings.

“Serving as chair of chairs this past year, Jeremy demonstrated strong leadership skills,” said Percy. “He gave chairs voice and represented them well on the Provost’s Council.”

Percy also cited Buckner’s effectiveness to lead in a collegial style, his work ethic, and strong skills in process and policy development.

Prior to his time at Carson-Newman, Buckner served as a graduate part-time instructor at Texas Tech University. He also taught music in Round Rock, Texas, at Gattis Elementary School and Sylvan Learning Center, as well as Robinson Middle School and Brinker Elementary School in Plano, Texas.

Buckner earned his doctorate, master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Texas Tech University.

Buckner’s appointment comes at a time when the University has seen significant growth in the area of adult and graduate studies. Last year the University experienced an increased enrollment of 605 graduate students, marking an 82 percent increase over the previous year. Carson-Newman continues to grow its options for adult and graduate students through associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree options and online courses.
