University to host launch of Sapling Grove Press

Carson-Newman University’s David and Dr. Susan O’Dell Underwood will be the focus of a Jan. 26 event celebrating the launch of the couple’s Sapling Grove Press.

(Jan. 15, 2015) – Carson-Newman University will host a special evening dedicated to the launch of Sapling Grove Press on Monday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the University’s Appalachian Cultural Center.

Sapling Grove Press is the creation of Carson-Newman professors David and Dr. Susan O’Dell Underwood. Its purpose is to publish poetry, literature and art.

The occasion of dual sabbaticals last fall offer the opportunity for the couple to start the new endeavor and release their first two books. The couple looks to publish a low volume of thoughtful, well-crafted books each year by a variety of authors and other creatives.

The Jan. 26 evening will feature the Underwoods as they share how and why they started the new publishing company. Susan and fellow Sapling Grove Press author Dawn Coppock will read from their published works. David will also provide a preview of the forthcoming photography anthology. A book signing will follow. Books will also be available for purchase.

Susan is a professor of English at the University, while David serves as professor of art.

Carson-Newman’s Appalachian Cultural Center is located 1603 Russell Avenue on the University’s campus.
