Topics will include poverty, hunger, access to clean water, education and human trafficking. “Missions Emphasis Week gives our students an opportunity to learn about and participate in spreading the love of Jesus Christ throughout our world,” said Chad Morris, associate director of Carson-Newman’s Campus Ministries. “Everyone has a different passion that God has given them, and we hope to provide an opportunity to connect these different passions with our world’s need.” Events are planned throughout the week starting with a Tuesday, Nov. 4, chapel service featuring speaker Marilee Pierce Dunker. Dunker serves as World Vision ambassador for children and is also daughter of Bob Pierce, founder of World Vision. Free and open to the public, the service will be held at First Baptist Church at 9:30 a.m. A Nov. 5 Missions Fair will be held in the Grand Hall of the Maddox Student Activities Center from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event allows for time to visit with organizations involved in ministry and outreach around the world. The week will conclude with a focus on the local community through a “Coats for the Cold” project through Appalachian Outreach. Participants will help distribute coats, gloves, blankets, and heaters to those in need this winter.
