Carson-Newman named one of the “Best in the Southeast”

(September 3, 2014) – The Princeton Review has again named Carson-Newman University as one of the best schools in the Southeast. The education services company recognized the nation’s top quarter of higher education institutions in its “2015 Best Colleges: Region by Region” list.

“We are thrilled to be included in this latest Princeton Review listing,” said Carson-Newman University President J. Randall O’Brien. “Being named one of the best in the Southeast, is a testament to the dedication of our faculty, staff and students to the success of the mission of the University.”

The 139 colleges The Princeton Review chose for its “Best in the Southeast” designations are located in 12 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

“We developed our “Best Colleges: Region by Region” lists to offer guidance for the growing number of students and parents now seeking colleges closer to home,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior VP/ publisher. “We selected Carson-Newman — and the other terrific institutions on our ‘regional best’ lists – primarily for their excellent academic offerings.”

According to The Princeton Review, the list is determined by asking students attending the schools to rate their own schools on several issues — from the accessibility of their professors to quality of their science lab facilities– and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and their campus life. Comments from surveyed students are quoted in the school profiles on The Princeton Review site. The profiles also have a “Survey Says” list that reveals topics about which students surveyed at the school were in highest agreement.

This summer Carson-Newman has been named the nation’s No. 7 “Baccalaureate College” by Washington Monthly. The University is also featured by Colleges of Distinction, a guidebook highlighting selected four-year colleges and universities.

The Princeton Review, which is not affiliated with Princeton University, has been a pioneer and leader in helping students achieve their higher education goals through college and graduate school test preparation.
