category: Campus News University names Valerie Day as new VP for Advancement category: Campus News | July 7, 2014 Valerie I. Day (July 7, 2014)– Carson-Newman University President J. Randall O’Brien has announced the appointment of Valerie I. Day as the institution’s vice president for Advancement. Day will assume her responsibilities on July 21. “Valerie is a Carson-Newman graduate who loves her alma mater,” said O’Brien. “She is passionate about our mission. Along with her extensive experience in the corporate and non-profit worlds, Valerie is a perfect fit for our leadership team.” Day, a resident of Maryville, Tennessee, comes to Carson-Newman after serving as chief executive officer of Maryville’s Haven House, a domestic violence shelter. Beginning in 2011, she led the agency in fiduciary management that produced double digit growth and oversaw a 45 percent fundraising increase. She also collaborated with local elected officials and community leaders to develop new programs and activities to increase awareness and funding. Prior to her work at Haven House, Day served as East Tennessee division director for March of Dimes where she was responsible for oversight of an East Tennessee fundraising goal of $2.9 million. She has also worked as development coordinator for Knoxville’s not-for-profit Helen Ross McNabb Center, special events coordinator for the city of Maryville and as a market account manager for Coca-Cola. Day received her MBA from Carson-Newman after earning her Bachelor of Business in Administration from Middle Tennessee State University. -30-
