(April 28, 2014)– Carson-Newman University commissioned 76 summer missionaries during an April 22, Summer Missionaries Commissioning Service held at Jefferson City’s First Baptist Church. “Carson-Newman has a strong tradition of student involvement in summer missions and ministry,” said Nenette Measels, director of campus ministries. “We are excited to see this continuing commitment this year as we seek to serve others in Christ’s name. Lives are forever changed as people are lovingly cared for and the grace of the Gospel is shared.” The Carson-Newman summer missionaries will serve this summer in 10 states, as well as locations abroad including South Africa, Australia, Poland, Philippines, Dominican Republic, India, Jamaica, Africa, Haiti, China, and Canada. Carson-Newman University is well known for its history of service and mission work. The University was awarded the 2012 Presidential Community Service Award, and approximately 170 students spent their 2014 spring break serving from Knoxville to Guatemala as part of spring mission trips.
