FCS Department honors students, recognizes Bible with service award

(April 17, 2014)– Carson-Newman University’s Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Department honored Morristown’s Ray Bible during its annual honors banquet on April 15. Bible was named recipient of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Service Award.

A Hamblen County native, Bible, along with his wife Barbara, has been a supporter of the University’s FCS program since 1989. The couple has devoted time, energy, and resources to the department and its students. Over the last 14 years, the Bibles have hosted luncheons for an estimated 700 FCS students, faculty, and guests at the home.

Since 2007 Bible, who serves as vice president of Bible Insurance, has been a member of Carson-Newman’s FCS Advisory Board as well as serving as chair. Contributions led to the establishment of the department’s Bible Food and Nutrition Sciences Suite in Blye-Poteat Hall, as well as the endowment of the Barbara Bible Scholars Fund.

He is an active member of the community serving as a member of Kiwanis Club International, the Walter State Community College President’s Trust, as well as in an elder and treasurer at Morristown’s First Presbyterian Church.

Highlights from the evening also included the presentation of departmental awards and scholarships to students and graduates which totaled over $100,000.

Students who received FCS awards during the evening included: Holly Lusk, C-N AFCS Leadership Award; Randall Nored, FCS Alumni Award; Bethany Parker, FCS Medal and Braden FCS Award; Madeline Reynolds, KONu Outstanding Sophomore Award; Madison Wilburn, Department of FCS Award.
