Carson-Newman to feature Phil Timp in April 2 chapel service

Carson-Newman will feature motivational speaker, Phil Timp, for its April 2 chapel service. The 9:30 a.m. event will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City and is open to the public.

Timp’s story is one that centers on overcoming life’s obstacles. Since the 1990s, he has shared his family’s story about parenting his severely disabled daughter Beth. In 2011, Timp was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He continues to share his transformational story of how he is coping with his situation with a powerfully positive perspective on life.

Timp serves as senior vice president at The Corporate Image PR firm and is the founder and executive director of The Beth Foundation, a non-profit that provides financial assistance to families with children with rare or severe disabilities. He is also an award-winning PR professional and journalist and former marathon/biathlon/triathlon competitor. Timp is the recipient of the Tri-Cities Chapter PRSA Rod Irvin Excellence Award, the Bristol Rotary Club 4-Test Award, the Associated Press Writing Awards, and the Sprint Speakers Bureau Awards. He has worked as a reporter for various daily newspapers in Virginia before working in PR at Sprint, Inc.
