Heiss acquired the art work in 1978 while he and his family served as missionaries in Aomori City and the surrounding area over a 20-year span. After he and his late wife, Joyce, translated a Japanese pamphlet for the Munakata Museum as a favor, museum officials presented the couple with the print. The artist was the recipient of the “Prize of Excellence” at the International Print Exhibition in Lugano, Switzerland in 1952 as well as the “Order of Culture,” the highest honor in arts by the Japanese government in 1970. The donated print is now on display in C-N’s Stephens-Burnett Memorial Library.
