Carson-Newman President Randall O’Brien will host a 10-day trip to Israel next spring. The itinerary features sites related to both the Old and New Testaments and the benefit of three scholars, as Dr. O’Brien will team with Drs. Gerald Borchert and David Crutchley for daily devotions and informative discussions.

The trip will be led by Borchert, C-N’s senior visiting professor of New Testament who has more than 40 years’ experience in Middle East travel and exploration, including teaching stints at Israel’s Institute for Holy Land Studies and Cairo’s Presbyterian Seminary. His recently published book on the region, The Lands of the Bible, examines Israel as well the Palestinian Territories, Jordan, the Sinai and Egypt. Beyond a travel guide, the work explores culture clashes that have fanned the flames of war between nations, as well as civil disruption between Israelis and Palestinians.

The second C-N-sponsored excursion led by Borchert and O’Brien, the schedule includes many of the important cities and locations noted in the Bible. Along with Crutchley, a New Testament scholar who leads C-N’s religion faculty, the senior professor and the president will offer on-site explanations and nightly seminars to help travelers place the day’s experience in Biblical perspective.
