Carson-Newman Summer Music Camp

Carson-Newman University’s Department of Music is pleased to present its 23rd annual Summer Music Camp. Camp has expanded to three weeks to accommodate for social distancing and other Covid-19  protocols set by the university. The first two weeks of camp are designated for band students. Week one will house middle school band students (grades 6-8) with two or more years experience on their instrument. Week two is designated for high school band students (grades 9-12) regardless of experience. The third week will feature Piano and Strings Camp, including chamber ensemble opportunities. Unfortunately, due to limited operational space and a cap of 35 students per camp, we will not host a beginner band until next summer.

Carson-Newman’s campus is situated near East Tennessee’s beautiful Smoky Mountains. Acclaimed annually in national publications as a leading liberal arts institution in the nation, the University is fully experienced in summer camp operations, annually hosting some 8,000 visitors through camps and other events. Leading music educators from across Tennessee and the region join the Carson-Newman music faculty and Music Camp staff to provide a quality musical experience and fun for each participant.

From Monday afternoon’s registration through Saturday’s conclusion, campers enjoy a blend of ensemble rehearsals, masterclasses and sectional rehearsals, structured and free-time recreation. Evening entertainment and social activities enhance the experience. In addition to ensemble rehearsals, participants may choose an optional half-hour or one-hour private lesson. (Note: private lessons are included in the price for Piano Campers.) Each camp will end with a Saturday concert, which is free, family-friendly and open to the public.

Join in the excitement of Carson-Newman’s Summer Music Camp.
