University event to celebrate international community, Nov. 18
(Nov. 11, 2014) –Carson-Newman University will celebrate its diverse, international community through a Nov. 18 event on campus. “A Sense of Place in Appalachia” is free and open to the public.
The event will feature international students sharing poetry and readings that remind them of home in their native language. Students will then talk about the readings in English.
“This gives a chance to learn more about our international students,” said Dr. Danny Hinson, who helps oversee the event and serves as associate professor in the University’s Teaching English as a Second Language Program. Hinson says the experience is a good reminder that many students are far from home.
Carson-Newman’s international students represent 28 different nations.
The 4 p.m. event will take place at Carson-Newman’s Appalachian Cultural Center located on Russell Ave. Seating is limited.
