(Jan. 30, 2018) – Carson-Newman University welcomes Judge Barry A. Steelman to its board of trustees. Steelman began his service January 1.

A graduate of Red Bank High School, Carson-Newman University and the University of Tennessee College of Law, Steelman currently serves as Criminal Court Judge, Division I, Hamilton County. Prior to his election in 2006, Steelman worked as a prosecutor in Hamilton County’s criminal courts and later served as executive assistant district attorney.

The 1986 alumnus has served on the Carson-Newman University Alumni Executive Committee, as president of the Chattanooga Bar Association and is currently a member of the Tennessee Supreme Court Indigent Representation Task Force.

“We are truly excited to welcome Judge Steelman to the Carson-Newman Board of Trustees,” said University President J. Randall O’Brien. “Along with his love of Christian higher education, he brings to us a wealth of legal, judicial and board experience. Judge Steelman is an excellent example of Carson-Newman’s mission of preparing students to be servant-leaders.”
