Campus traditions help usher in Christmas season

(Nov. 28, 2017) – On Saturday, Dec. 2, Carson-Newman University's Music Department will present its annual Christmas Oratorio of Handel's "Messiah."

Under the direction of Dr. Eric Thorson, the event will feature members of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and Carson-Newman instrumentalists as they join members of the University's A Cappella Choir, Women Singers, and Men's Chorus.

The 6 p.m. event will be held at Jefferson City's First Baptist Church.

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the University will also hold its 37th annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Tarr Music Center on campus. Various choral groups and instrumental ensembles will usher in the Christmas season in the Center's lobby. There will be two tree lighting ceremonies: 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Call 865-471-3328 for complimentary tickets.
