URGENT: C-N becomes drop-off site for Gatlinburg Disaster Relief donations
On Tuesday Carson-Newman students and campus community began donating and loading needed supplies on a Sevier County-bound truck. The items were delivered to those affected by the devastating fires in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Pictured is senior biology major Megan Peterson as she joins other students in loading donated water. Carson-Newman will continue to be a collection site through 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, when items will be delivered.
(Nov. 30, 2016) – Carson-Newman is a collection site for donated items to benefit those affected by the devastating fires in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The effort will run through Thursday, Dec. 1, when the items will be delivered.
We at Carson-Newman are utilizing our 3 gym area of the Maddox Student Activities Center (located on 2130 Branner Ave) as a place where we will collect and sort items today (Nov. 30) and tomorrow, then tomorrow afternoon our student body will join in packaging, boxing, and loading them onto the truck.
Items may be brought to the lower level parking lot of the Maddox Student Activities Center. On the lower parking lot, we will have a Drop off service, where if you wish to do so you can drive up, drop your items off, and then leave. Individuals will be there to help you unload them.
On Wednesday, you bring by/drop off the items listed below until 11 pm tonight. On Thursday, you can do so from 7 am until 2 p.m. At 2 p.m. Thursday, we will begin the packaging, boxing, and loading operation. They will then be delivered by our Department of Public Safety to the collection point in Kodak.
Please bring the items listed below. All items must be NEW and individually packaged.
Hygiene items:( regular size, not travel size)), including:
feminine hygiene products
socks (new, packaged)
underwear (new, packaged)
In terms of food items, you may bring:
· bottled waters
· bottled Gatorades, Powerades, etc.
· individualized snacks (such as protein bars, nutrigrain bars, trail mix, etc.)
