Music Theory Students study the way melody, texture, harmony, and form are used to create musical compositions. Students combine this in-depth study of music with lessons learning to compose music while also become proficient with their own instrument.
Music Theory Students frequently choose to go to graduate school, but others have become worship leaders, full-time orchestral musicians, or found jobs in the business world.
Getting my degree in Music Theory from Carson-Newman gave me an excellent foundation for working as a Worship Pastor and Music Producer. Whether I’m building song arrangements, working in Ableton Live, or writing and recording music for my teams, I use the skills I acquired from my Music Theory courses every single day.
Music Theory students at Carson-Newman create a senior project where they analyze a musical composition of their choice in depth while working one-on-one with a member of the Carson-Newman Music Faculty.
