Youth Center Assistant Director

POSITION SUMMARY:
Good News Ministries is seeking an Assistant Director for its Youth Center, which provides after-school and summer programs for at-risk inner-city youth ages 8-18 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the surrounding area. In this full-time paid position the Assistant Director would work with the Director on the Youth Center’s daily operation.

WORK HOURS:
• During the School Year: Monday to Friday, 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., with some weekend hours required for special events and Sunday morning bus routes
• Summer Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with some weekend hours for special events and off-site activities

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Director’s duties are as follows:
• Conduct Bible studies geared toward inner-city kids
• Teach and lead spiritual songs and scripture passages
• Counsel youth on matters of salvation, Christian growth and biblical moral values
• Canvas inner-city neighborhoods recruiting new youth attendees and maintaining contact with parents
• Provide Youth Center kids opportunities for soul winning
• Monitor youth at Youth Center and off-site activities, enforcing rules of conduct and applying disciplinary measures, as needed
• Coordinate new and exciting games and creative contests
• Teach fundamentals of being “other-oriented”
• Create activities with spiritual emphasis that enhance staff interaction with youth
• Use activities and games that encourage and promote discipleship efforts
• Encourage godly sportsmanship
• Oversee the Center’s tutorial program, helping youth with homework, encouraging reading, building computer skills and recruiting volunteers to help tutor kids
• Transport youth to and from the Center and to church on Sundays and Wednesdays, as well as special activities and sporting events
• Help recruit and lead volunteers and summer interns in various projects and programs
• Maintain the building and playground
• Assist in the creation of monthly and quarterly events calendars
• Create, coordinate, track and implement incentive activities
• Assist in implementation of discipleship program
• Counsel kids one-on-one or in small groups
• Other tasks as needed for ministry

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Born again believer with high moral integrity and well-grounded in scripture

• Highly motivated with strong work ethic and initiative to take on projects and see to completion
• Excellent people skills and highly creative
• Love for misdirected inner-city youth and a burden to see them saved and growing in the Lord
• Mature, self-controlled and able to present a positive example to youth
• Minimum two-year Bible college degree, preferably with an emphasis in youth ministry
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Previous youth ministry experience (Sunday school teacher, youth pastor, camp counselor, junior church worker, etc.)
• Over 21 years of age and able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License and drive a full-size bus
