Audit Associate

Our firm’s audit department is currently seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our growing team. Experience in areas such as privately held businesses, homeowner associations, affordable housing, construction, employee benefit plans, and non-profits is beneficial. Seeking someone who wants to participate in our firm’s positive culture and is passionate about helping our audit practice grow.

Learn the difference between annual audits, reviews, compilations, and AUP:
Knowledge of the amount of substantive and analytical procedures required in an engagement based on level of service
Understand the purpose of each workpaper and the work that is being performed

Obtains an understanding of the various industries that the firm works in and the different accounting requirements for each.
Demonstrates the ability to tie out and reconcile workpapers to trial balance accounts
Understands and applies basic concepts of generally accepted accounting principles, generally accepted auditing standards, and other financial reporting frameworks
Performs audit procedures on foundational, less complex areas (Cash, Prepaid Expenses, PP&E, AP, etc.), preparing appropriate audit conclusions
Demonstrates the ability to determine scope of testing based on audit procedures and/or materiality
Demonstrates the ability to manage current individual workload, including multiple engagements simultaneously, and communicate with supervisors and managers to determine prioritization
Demonstrates ability to provide neat, complete and organized workpapers using the firm’s technology; this includes having appropriate scope, expectation and conclusion
Ability to prepare draft financial statements and perform subsequent review of previously prepared financial statements, when necessary
Obtain an understanding of control deficiencies and the ability to identify and document those which should be communicated to management
Create and rollforward required correspondence with clients including, but not limited to engagement, representation, governance and /or management letters

Learn and exhibit professional communication skills:
With team internally regarding status of projects, asking questions, and participating in meetings
With clients as appropriate and as directed by engagement partner or manager

Exhibits attributes of a team player by going above and beyond the requirements of job specific tasks
Builds upon job knowledge by participating in department wide trainings as well as independent learning such as reading professional publications and regulations or finding outsourced CPE courses
